BALTIMORE — In an ideal world, Jeremiah Jackson would not have had any real opportunity to show the Baltimore Orioles what he is capable of at the big league level in 2025. But this has been far from the ideal season and the year that the Orioles were expecting, and Jackson, finally getting an extended run in the Majors, showed on Thursday that he’s going to make things tough on the franchise when making decisions about whom will be in the plans for the Orioles’ attempt at redemption in 2026.
Jackson, the 25-year-old rookie who made his Major League debut just two weeks ago, made key contributions at the plate and on the field as the Orioles defeated the Seattle Mariners 5-3 inside Oriole Park at Camden Yards to take the three-game series. His RBI single in the fourth inning was part of a three-run rally for Baltimore that started the scoring, and he helped prevent a possible big inning for the Mariners in the first inning as the right fielder threw out Josh Naylor while trying to extend a base hit into a double.
Not bad for a infielder by trade who spent seven seasons in the Minors and had played the outfield just seven times during that span down on the farm.
Jackson, who was a second-round draft pick by the Los Angeles Angels, had a pinch-hit RBI triple during last night’s 4-3 victory and is currently batting .267 in his 11 games with Baltimore after slashing .377/.400/.673 in 40 games at Triple-A Norfolk.
“It’s awesome. Ever since I’ve gotten here, it’s been really gritty games. We’re right there every time,” Jackson said. “To be able to come in and help the team win, it’s awesome. It’s been fun.”
Jackson’s exploits were in support of Orioles starting pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano, who allowed just one run over 5 1/3 innings, and was on the mound with Baltimore up 5-0 in the top of the sixth when rain halted play for just over two hours.
