Will a championship won on the diamond soon lead to more glory on the gridiron for the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2018?
Our latest edition of The A Lot of Sports Talk Podcast concentrates on recent happenings with a couple of teams in the ACC, starting with the Florida State University softball team and its run to the 2018 Women’s College World Series championship last month. The team’s head coach, Lonni Alameda, joined our show just days after her team lifted the title in Oklahoma City to talk about, among other things, the resilience her team had to show in the tournament, as the Seminoles won six consecutive elimination games during their postseason run to the championship. Florida State’s title also marked the first-ever D1 softball championship won by a team in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and Alameda explained how her team’s success may help to spearhead the conference toward being one of the premier leagues in college softball before too long.
Last week, A Lot of Sports Talk was in Charlotte as part of ACC Kickoff – the two-day media event getting ready for the upcoming college football season in the Atlantic Coast Conference – and, during our time on radio row, we were honored to have TigerNet staff writer Nikki Hood on as a guest to talk all things Clemson University football. The Tigers, picked once again to win the league in the preseason media poll in 2018, are looking to make a fourth consecutive appearance in the College Football Playoff, and Nikki spoke to co-hosts Adesina O. Koiki and Lauren Foti about how coach Dabo Swinney has turned around a program that now has posted at least 10 wins in seven consecutive seasons. Also, Nikki breaks down the quarterback situation, as incumbent Kelly Bryant is being seriously pushed by true freshman Trevor Lawrence, the No. 1-ranked prep quarterback in 2017 who broke Georgia state records for career passing yards and touchdowns that were previously held by a former Clemson quarterback, current Houston Texans starter Deshaun Watson.
