WASHINGTON — Before today’s game, the Washington Mystics officially became the first team to clinch a playoff spot. They punctuated their first game after that accomplishment by setting a WNBA record in a demolition that has become an all-too-familiar sight in what is quickly becoming a special season.

Elena Delle Donne scored 25 points while the team connected on a league-record 18 three-pointers as the Mystics routed the Indiana Fever 107-68 at the Entertainment and Sports Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Washington never trailed in the game and, after the score was tied at 2-2, the Mystics went on an 18-0 run on their way to continuing another WNBA record — their 11th win of at least 20 points or more on the season.

“When you shoot 39 threes and make 18 of them and you have 30 assists for the game, coach has to be pretty happy,” Mystics head coach Mike Thibault said after the game. “The world looks really good when you’re making shots.”

Ariel Atkins and Aerial Powers each hit four threes while Delle Donne made three of her four attempts from beyond the arc. The Mystics’ record-breaking performance was made even more impressive by the fact that they played the game without one of the league’s all-time great three-point shooters, guard Kristi Toliver.

Shey Peddy, who signed a seven-day contract with the Mystics to fill Toliver’s roster spot, drained a three-pointer with 1:21 remaining in the game for the record-breaking moment.

Tiffany Mitchell led the Fever with 17 points while rookie center Teaira McCowan had 14 points and 10 rebounds off the bench for Indiana.
