The unofficial halfway point of both the Major League Baseball and WNBA seasons has some teams assessing where their seasons are headed, while others are gearing up for a championship push in one way or another .

Our latest episode of The A Lot of Sports Talk Podcast focuses on the teams in both leagues that still are contending for postseason berths, and what might be in store for them as we get set to begin the second half. The Sports Xchange sportswriter Mike Shalin – formerly of the New York Post and Boston Herald – joins us for an extended conversation previewing each of the division races, which are as tight as has ever been seen in recent memory. (Four of the six division leaders at the break were up by a game-and-a-half or fewer.)  Shalin talks about which teams need a hot start immediately out of the break to still be considered a contender going into August (listen up Red Sox fans), how injuries have impacted almost each of the pennant races, as well as which former league MVP could possibly be shipped out before the July 31 trading deadline. Shalin is also a Hall of Fame voter, and he shares a couple of personal stories about some of the 2014 Hall of Fame class during his time covering them (Bobby Cox, Joe Torre, Tony La Russa, Frank Thomas, Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux).

The second interview is with Atlanta Dream forward and WNBA All-Star Angel McCoughtry, as her Dream are perched atop the Eastern Conference in the WNBA at the All-Star break.  McCoughtry shares with us how the Dream have won 12 of their last 15 games going into the break, the difference with the team with former L.A. Sparks coach Michael Cooper at the helm, as well as having a fellow Louisville alum, fellow All-Star starter Shoni Schimmel, on the team. Also, you have to listen in to see if McCoughtry let us know about a trick or two she has up her sleeve for the All-Star Game.
