The Big Three has morphed into the Fab Five.

Last season saw the undefeated Huskies march to their 11th national title on the backs of all-time basketball great Breanna Stewart, along with stars Morgan Tuck and Moriah Jefferson. Enough experts doubted that this year’s team, without those now-departed seniors, would be able to keep up that standard of play that led the Huskies to end last season with another national championship and a 75-game winning streak.

After tonight’s win against Oregon in the Bridgeport Regional Final, the starting quintet of Gabby Williams, Kia Nurse, Katie Lou Samuelson, Saniya Chong and Napheesa Collier have extended that winning streak to end last season to 111 games, and now the Huskies are on their way to Dallas to try and bring home a twelfth national title. UConn dispatched the Ducks 90-52 in front of a partisan crowd at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Conn. Collier, on her way to winning the region’s most outstanding player award, recorded her 16th double-double, scoring 28 points and recording 12 rebounds. Williams chipped in with 25 points while the backcourt of Chong and Nurse each scored 11. The Huskies, who will now make their 10th consecutive Final Four appearance and will participate in its 18th Final Four overall, will take on Mississippi State in the national semifinals on Sunday.

As always, our photographer, Robert Cole, was courtside at Webster Bank Arena to provide us and our viewers amazing closeups of the action.
