ARLINGTON, Texas — The old baseball axiom goes that momentum is only as effective as the next day’s starting pitcher, though it seems as if the Texas Rangers are as hot as a locomotive every time Lace Lynn takes the mound.

Lynn once again twirled a gem for Texas, allowing just two runs in 6.1 innings as the Rangers defeated the Kansas City Royals 6-2 at Globe Life Park on Saturday. Carried by their starting pitching, the Rangers have won four of their last five and 12 of their last 17 ball games. Building upon the quality start from Ariel Jurado yesterday, Lynn delivered his fifth consecutive quality start (at least six innings pitched and three runs or fewer) as Texas took its second consecutive game from Kansas City.

“Pretty much what we’ve seen from Lance all year,” said Rangers manager Chris Woodward. “He competed his tail off and was getting weak contact early. Struck out the side in the second inning. After that, he said, ‘I don’t want to throw too many more pitches.’ So he tried to get early outs. He did a good job getting weak contact.”
