NEW YORK — The latest rendezvous on the diamond between the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets on Friday served to just be a continuation of where the teams left off last.

Step 1: New York receives stellar starting pitching, good enough to win the game.

Step 2: Philadelphia’s offense breathes a collective sigh of relief once the late stages of the game arrives, because…

Step 3: The Mets’ bullpen completely collapses, resulting in yet another agonizing loss for New York while the Phillies continue its recent dominance against one of their rivals.

Philadelphia scored five runs in the ninth inning, four charged to beleaguered Mets closer Edwin Diaz, as the Phillies broke open a tie game and defeated New York 7-2 to win its fifth consecutive game in the series. Like each of the four games that the Phillies won in a four-game sweep of the Mets last week, Philadelphia came back from a late deficit by jumping on New York’s feckless bullpen.
