ARLINGTON, Texas — It was the Houston Astros’ mistakes defensively that cost them the chance to win the game after nine innings on Saturday. The bat of José Altuve, not surprisingly, came to the rescue to make up for those gaffes to eke out a victory on Saturday night.

Altuve cranked out four hits, including a run-scoring double in the 11th inning as Houston defeated the Texas Rangers 7-6 at Globe Life Park in Arlington to get on the board in the four-game series after Texas won the first two contests.

George Springer was on first base with two outs in the 11thwhen Altuve lined a pitch off Rangers reliever Brett Martin into the left-center gap. Left fielder Joey Gallo cut the ball off before it reached the wall, but Springer raced around the bases to score from first to give Houston the lead.

Max Straw followed with a single to right to score Altuve, which proved to be the game-winning hit.

“We lost the first two games here, so we were trying to win a game and get some momentum,” said Altuve after his 30th-career four-hit game. “I just wanted to put the ball in play. When I hit it, I didn’t think George was going to score, but what he did was amazing. I hit the ball good, but probably 50 percent or more of the play was on him. I think we won because of him.”
