NEW YORK — In getting just that one chance to make a good first impression, recently-acquired outfielder Tyler Naquin marked his New York Mets home debut by pulling off a first in team history on the Mets’ way to opening up their slim lead in the National League East.

Naquin hit half of the Mets’ home runs tonight — the first player to hit two home runs in a home debut for New York — as they defeated Atlanta 6-4 in the first of a crucial five-game series this weekend. Pete Alonso and Daniel Vogelbach hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning while Edwin Díaz was called upon to, and succeeded in, getting six outs for his first two-inning save of the season.
