WASHINGTON — Jimmy Butler took a wrong step during the second half of Sunday night’s game, causing an injury that forced him to miss the entire fourth quarter. His Miami Heat teammates barely missed a step in his absence, a trend the team hopes continues if in the event their star swingman misses any extended time.

All-Star Bam Adebayo picked up the slack for Butler with his 27 points and 14 rebounds, and Duncan Robinson continued his hot shooting from three to lead the Heat to a 100-89 victory over the Washington Wizards at Capital One Arena.

“I couldn’t move the way I wanted to move,” Butler said after the game “I think we all have enough faith in each other, in this group of guys, to get it done [even if] we’re a man or two down. This was a big step in the right direction.”

Butler took an inadvertent step while playing defense in the lane a little more than halfway through the third quarter, and left the game at the next stoppage of play.

Miami’s initial surge toward the top of the Eastern Conference standings this season came at the season’s onset, when Butler was out the first three games due to the birth of his child and players like Adebayo, Robinson and Kendrick Nunn emerged as key components of a surprise Eastern Conference contender.

On Sunday, Miami turned around an 83-75 deficit late in the third quarter and blew past the Wizards with a game-deciding 25-3 run. Robinson, who hit a couple of threes late during that stretch, hit seven of 11 three-points attempts in scoring 23 points. His first three extended his streak of games with at least one three-pointer made to a franchise record-tying 49 games.
