DALLAS — Undermanned but not overmatched, at least on Sunday, the Denver Nuggets and their bench found a away to produce an unlikely victory, helped by one of the most unlikely of shots.

Bones Hyland scored a career-high 29 points while coming off the bench, while Michael Porter Jr.’s three-pointer with 55 seconds remaining proved to be the game-winning basket in the Nuggets’ 98-97 victory over the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center on Sunday evening. Denver, who lost to the same Mavericks team by 28 points in the same venue 48 hours prior, was without two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic once again, who remains in the league’s health and safety protocol.

“Proud, man. Really, really proud,” Nuggets head coach Michael Malone said. “Down three starters, this team blitzed us by 28 points two nights ago. Jeff Green was filling in as a starter. He gets hurt and we lose him, but there was never any quit and there was never any panic. There was just fight and resiliency. That’s where I say I’m just so proud of our group because [they had] every reason in the world just to kind of say ‘okay, let’s go home and get ready for Detroit’ and feel sorry for ourselves.”
