NEW YORK — In a conference that may get as many as six teams in the NCAA Tournament but as few as three if things across the conference championship landscape go amok, Thursday’s Big East Tournament quarterfinals serves as the biggest audition stage for a number of the bubble teams in the league for the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee to lay their eyes on.

Both sessions of the quarterfinals offered a number of teams a shot at redemption or an opportunity to burnish questionable résumés leading up to Selection Sunday which is fast approaching. Among the most to gain (and lose), Providence, Creighton, Xavier, St. John’s and Georgetown all knew that anything but a win could lead to realistic hopes of making the NCAAs to be quashed.
