NEW YORK — The first semifinal game of the 2019 Big East Tournament on Friday night turned into an overtime thriller, with one team attempting to make it to a fifth straight tournament final while the other battling for its NCAA Tournament life and hoping to give itself the opportunity to advance to the title game and attempt to earn a ticket to the Big Dance through the automatic bid route.

The drama, theatrics, bad blood and post-game acerbity in the second game all but made the opener seem a distant memory.

In the nightcap of Friday night’s doubleheader, third-seeded Seton Hall defeated No. 2 Marquette 81-79 in a game that featured nine technical fouls, two ejections, one ejection that wasn’t and words exchanged between the two combatants, err, opponents at the end-game handshake line.
