UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Paige Bueckers is back. Are the UConn Huskies completely back?

The business end of the 2022 Big East Women’s Basketball Tournament started on Saturday afternoon, and the top-seeded Huskies wasted no time throwing down a marker, smoking No. 9 seed Georgetown 84-38 to advance to another conference tournament semifinal. Bueckers, in her third game back after missing almost all of conference play because of a knee injury suffered on December 5, led the Huskies with 16 points in just 18 minutes as she came off the bench. Connecticut held the Hoyas to just 27 percent shooting, and the Huskies powered their way to a 43-9 lead at halftime.

Offense was sure to be the order of the day in the second game, and fifth-seeded Marquette and No. 4 DePaul did not disappoint. Despite the Blue Demons averaging over 88 points per game, they allowed over 77 points per game coming into tonight, and the Golden Eagles took full advantage in speeding to a 105-85 victory between the Midwest rivals. Marquette dominated the glass, outrebounding the Blue Demons 49-17, while shooting a whopping 65.7 percent from the field. Three players scored at least 20 points for the Golden Eagles, led by Liza Karlen’s 26 points and 14 rebounds.

The evening session should see some more high scoring, as No. 2 seed Villanova, who has the the nation’s second-leading scorer in Big East Player of the Year Maddy Siegrist, takes on seventh-seeded St. John’s before No. 3 Creighton faces No. 6 Seton Hall.
