NEW YORK — The two combatants in the first quarterfinal of the 2022 ACC Tournament once again proved true the axiom made famous, though possibly erroneously attributed to Aristotle: The more you know, the more you know you don’t know.

As the top-seeded Duke Blue Devils took the court to take on No. 9 Syracuse at high noon on Thursday, two aspects that many believed would play a part in today’s game were already established facts; The Blue Devils swept the Orange in the regular season, including a 38-point win at the Carrier Dome just two weeks ago, and Syracuse’s leading scorer and First Team All-ACC selection Buddy Boeheim

Good luck!

But if there is one silver lining to hold onto for Syracuse fans, it is the magic that usually comes with the team playing a conference tournament in New York, which the Orange (née Orangemen) did for over 30 years when a member of the Big East Conference and claimed five Big East Tournament titles with Boeheim steering the ship. A good number of Syraucse fans will play hooky from work to make their way to the Barclays Center, and First Team All-ACC selection Buddy Boeheim, along with his teammates, will need all the support they can get to find a second wind to begin their road to redemption.

The rest of the lineup for today’s second-round games also bring lots of intrigue. In the second game, No. 5 Wake Forest looks to avoid a NCAA Tournament résumé-damaging loss to No. 13 Boston College. In the nightcap, both Virginia Tech and Virginia, the No. 7 and No. 6 seeds respectively, also look to burnish their credentials before the NCAA Tournament Selection Show on Sunday, with the Hokies taking on No. 10 Clemson and the Hoos meeting up with No. 11 Louisville.
