COLLEGE PARK, MARYLAND — Like the athletic department’s well-known motto, the Arizona Wildcats women’s basketball team had to bear down when it saw its two primary ballhandlers in grave foul trouble midway through the third quarter in its first round game in the NCAA Tournament. As it turned out, the Wildcats’ showed off a versatility in playing style that it did not possess in past seasons, and that carried the Wildcats to another win in the Big Dance.

Cate Reese led all scorers with 25 points and also had six rebounds to help lead the Wildcats to a 75-62 victory over West Virginia in the first round of the Greenville 1 region of the NCAA Tournament. The seventh-seeded Wildcats will now take on No. 2 Maryland, who easily dispatched of Patriot League champion Holy Cross in the second game inside the XFINITY Center on Friday.
