Snap Judgments at the 2017 ACC Tournament: Day 2

How much more March magic does Syracuse still possess after their unbelievable run to the Final Four last season? Can Duke do something no No. 5 seed has ever done in ACC Tournament history? Have the Virginia Cavaliers gotten their mojo back?

All these questions and more will start to be answered during Day Two of the 2017 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament in the Big Apple, as the three winners from yesterday’s Day One take the court once again, along with five other teams making their tournament debut in 2017. Kicking things off today is the 8/9 matchup of Syracuse, looking for another big win to bolster its iffy resume, against the Miami Hurricanes, coached by Bronx native and former Archbishop Molloy High School (Queens) star Jim LarraƱaga. The Orange won the only matchup between these two teams in the regular season at the Carrier Dome in January, but Syracuse is just 2-10 in games played away from the Dome this season, a major factor in Syracuse occupying its tenuous position on “the bubble.”

After that contest, Duke, trying to become the first No. 5 seed to ever win the ACC Tournament, will take on a Clemson team coming off a win yesterday against NC State. The Tigers only lost by two at Cameron Indoor Stadium when these two teams met earlier in the season, and a win for Clemson surely will keep its hopes of securing an NCAA Tournament bid alive.

The evening session will feature the Virginia Cavaliers, who won their last three games of the regular season after losing six out of eight. Though a founding member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, which dates back to 1953, the Hoos have won the ACC Tournament only twice, in 1976 and 2014. Pitt, who won last night over 11th-seeded Georgia Tech, will look to avenge the embarrassing loss it suffered at the hands of the Cavaliers in the regular season finale in Charlottesville.

Like yesterday, our photographer, Robert Cole, will be courtside at the Barclays Center and provide us – and our viewers – amazing closeups of the action, from the opening tip of the first game to the madness that’s sure to ensue in the ACC Tournament title game on Saturday night. Starting tonight, we will also have on-court pictures coming to you from the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden, and those galleries will be presented to you starting with tonight’s first matchup at MSG between Georgetown and St. John’s.

Keep refreshing this page soon after the games end to see the latest pictures from Day 2 of the 2017 ACC Tournament. There are now 16 photos in this gallery, all coming from the first contest today between No. 9 Miami and No. 8 Syracuse.
