Is another Gold Rush coming in the near future out West?

The latest edition of Down and Distance previews Week 11 of the NFL season, and our hosts – Adesina O. Koiki and Holly Culbertson – spend the First Down segment concentrating on some NFC teams that have a lot of questions to answer in the next few weeks. We discuss whether the 49ers will prove that their win last week in New Orleans wasn’t just a momentary peak in an otherwise up-and-down season so far.  Staying in the NFC West, we assess the Arizona Cardinals, who are 8-1 on the season but now without starting quarterback Carson Palmer after his ACL injury has now put him out for the remainder of the  season.  Lastly on First Down, we tackle what has gone wrong in Chicago, as the Bears, picked by some to go to the Super Bowl (including by one Adesina O. Koiki), have imploded over the past two games.

On Second Down, we interview one of the most entertaining and knowledgeable play-by-play guys in the business, Mitch Holthus of the Chiefs Radio Network.  In our discussion, Holthus explains, among many other things, why Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles is the toughest player he’s seen wear a Chiefs uniform in over 20 years working with the club, along with how the defense has made up for the loss of Pro Bowl linebacker Derrick Johnson, who tore his Achilles during Week 1 of the NFL season. With the Chiefs, winners of six out their last seven games, getting ready to host the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks this weekend, Holthus gives us the 4-1-1 on what’s in store from the fans at Arrowhead, known as one of the most raucous and loudest crowds in the league, and why they want to deliver a message to Seattle just as much as the players want to.

Third Down brings a preview of, and predictions on, six big games in the NFL this week, including the Thursday night matchup between the Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins. It’s a must-win situation for both teams, who both come in with 5-4 records.  Other games of note include that Seahawks’ visit to Kansas City, New England on the road in Indianapolis and Arizona looking to go 9-1 in a battle with another NFC stalwart, the 7-2 Detroit Lions. Fourth down sees Holly wrestle with a hypothetical scenario centering around the Arizona Cardinals maintaing their division lead and a possible bye in the NFC Playoffs without the services of Carson Palmer going forward.
