We’re fast approaching Memorial Day Weekend, which not only marks the unofficial start of summer, but also happens to mark the most notable and prestigious segment of the auto racing calendar in both the United States and overseas.

In our latest edition of The A Lot of Sports Talk Podcast, we turn our attention mostly to the action on the race track, as the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 is all set to take place this Sunday, one of the two racing events in the world – along with the Grand Prix of Monaco – that captures the attention of auto racing fanatics like no other during the latter stages of the month of May. Our feature interview is with one of the pioneers of racing in the United States, Lyn St. James, one of the nine women who have competed as a driver in “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.” St. James, who made six starts at the Indianapolis 500 and won the Indy 500 Rookie of the Year after finishing 11th place in the 1992 edition, discusses her memories from that unforgettable 1992 race, which included the closest finish in the history of the event. Also in the conversation, St. James describes how she first got interested in motor sports, as well as the challenges and perceptions she faced as a woman trying to maintain excellence in a male-dominated sport. St. James, who was born Evelyn Cornwall, also explains where she derived “St. James” from, and how her name change many years ago helped her burgeoning racing career at the time.

Also joining us on this podcast is WNBA All-Star and Atlanta Dream guard Angel McCoughtry, who has spearheaded the Dream to a 3-1 start in the early stages of the 2016 WNBA season. Picked by many to finish near the bottom of the Eastern Conference this season, McCoughtry explains how the team has used those perceived slights as motivation going into this season, as well as her emotions after the end of last season, when the Dream missed out on the WNBA Playoffs for the first time since their inaugural campaign in 2008.
