NEW YORK — What could have been a frustrating week at home for New York City Football Club was salvaged in the nick of time.

Defenders Maxime Chanot and Alexander Callens scored in the final 10 minutes as NYCFC turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union on Saturday afternoon in Yankee Stadium. NYCFC has now picked up seven points out of a possible nine in its last three games at home.

The lone result in that span in which NYCFC dropped points was in its last match, this past Wednesday vs. the New England Revolution, where a game-tying goal from the Revs in the final five minutes left NYCFC and its fans disappointed at a 2-2 draw. In the 67th minute today, it was New York City-born midfielder Fafa Picault who opened up the scoring with a right-footed shot from the top of the box that beat goalkeeper Sean Johnson to his left to give the Union a 1-0 lead.

New York’s response was almost immediate, increasing the pressure and forcing Philadelphia goalkeeper Andre Blake to make a wonderful double save in the 74th minute. However, New York City tied the score in the 80th minute off a corner kick, with defender Maxime Chanot heading in Maxi Morales’ corner into the net to tie the score at 1-1. It was from another set piece where NYCFC took the lead. Morales’ corner was not cleared by Philadelphia’s defense, allowing Rodney Wallace a clear chance on goal. Blake saved it, but the rebound came to defender Alexander Callens, who buried his short-range shot into the far corner to lift his team to victory.
