WASHINGTON — Two seasons ago, Minnesota Lynx forward Aerial Powers was a key contributor on the Washington Mystics’ march to their first-ever WNBA championship. On Sunday, Powers was key in making sure the Mystics will not get that same opportunity to win a championship in 2021.
Powers scored 27 points, including four free throws in the final minute of the contest, as the Lynx held off the Mystics 83-77 in the season finale for both teams at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, DC. The win clinched the No. 3 seed and a first-round bye in the WNBA Playoffs for the Lynx, while the Mystics, who would have clinched the No. 8 seed with a victory, are officially eliminated from postseason contention. (Los Angeles’ loss in Dallas allowed the New York Liberty to secure the league’s final playoff spot.)
