WASHINGTON — Not that it was their intentions, but the Atlanta Dream and Washington Mystics played a game epitomizing the super-tight race for the final playoff spot in the upcoming WNBA Playoffs, and after the dust settled, the separation at the bottom of the standings became nonexistent.
Naz Hillmon’s game-tying jumper with 29.4 seconds left in regulation forced overtime, and another jumper of hers in overtime game the Dream the lead for good as Atlanta defeated the Washington Mystics 76-73 inside Entertainment & Sports Arena on Sunday afternoon. Tina Charles led Atlanta with 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Dream and Mystics are now part of a three-way tie for the eighth and final playoff spot with two games remaining.
Later in the day, the Chicago Sky lost in Phoenix to the Mercury to drop their record to 13-25, same as the Dream and Mystics.
