FORT WORTH, Texas \u2014 If there were worries that the TCU men’s basketball team would have enough to close out one of the most important games in school history after coming back from a 12-point deficit, its star player put those fears to bed by carrying it to the finish line almost by himself.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Desmond Bane went on a personal 8-0 run, which happened to be the first eight points of the Horned Frogs’ 13-0 spurt to break a tie late and defeat the second-ranked Bears 75-72 at Schollmaier Arena on Saturday afternoon.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Bane scored 23 points while PJ Fuller added 21 as TCU recorded just its second-ever win against an AP top-five team and recorded its highest ranked home win in school history.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Baylor opened up a 39-27 lead with 16:24 remaining on a Devonte Bandoo three-pointer, but the Frogs went on a 10-2 run \u2014 with seven of those points coming from Fuller \u2014 to pull TCU back into the game. Kevin Samuel’s two free throws gave TCU its first lead of the half at 50-49 lead with 8:19 left.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

From then on out, Bane took over. In the span of 10 minutes, Bane knocked down five three pointers, and his triple with 4:41 remaining gave TCU the lead for good while starting the game-decisive 11-0 spurt. Bane scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half, knocking down seven of his eight shots from the field \u2014 a perfect 5-for-5 on threes.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As a team, TCU made 16 of their 21 shots from the field (76 percent) in the game’s final 20 minutes.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Freddie Gillespie led the Bears with 18 points as Baylor has now lost two of its last three games after a 21-game winning streak.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
