With the often unreasonable expectations of college football fans and of the administrations at those universities, it seems as if anything shy of having a gold medal around your neck won’t be enough to save a head coach’s job if results aren’t up to snuff.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Lucky for us, our latest edition of\u00a0The A Lot of Sports Talk<\/em> Podcast includes an Olympic gold medalist as one of our guests. Kicking off our latest show is 2002 Winter Olympics gold medalist Sarah Hughes<\/em><\/strong>, who took home the gold in one of the more dramatic figure skating competitions in recent memory. We caught up with Hughes, currently a law school student at the University of Pennsylvania, in August at the Salute to Strong Women event in the Queens section of New York City, and she updated us on what she’s been up to since her remarkable win in Salt Lake City, as well as her involvement in Figure Skating in Harlem<\/a>, a nonprofit organization which uses the sport of figure skating to help improve the lives of young women from underrepresented groups in the New York City area.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Neither a gold medal nor 10 wins per full season were enough to save the job of former LSU football head coach Les Miles, who was fired on Sept. 25 after 11-plus years at the helm of the Bayou Bengals. Our second guest on the podcast is current Vermont sportscaster Erin Cofiell<\/em><\/strong>, an award-winning journalist who had previously spent time reporting in Baton Rouge at WAFB-TV and Cox Sports Television. Along with sharing her initial reaction to the news of Miles’ firing, Erin shares with us her experience covering the LSU football team and from being around Les off the field to let us in on the type of person she thinks the “Mad Hatter” was. Cofiell also is the star of one of the more unique local sports television segments in the country, Darin’ Erin<\/a>, where she trades in her microphone and participates in various athletic activities alongside experts in those activities. The segment started while Cofiell was a reporter in Baton Rouge, and she explains to us how it got started and how the segment has evolved over the years. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
