ARLINGTON, TEXAS \u2014 The zeroes that Michael Lorenzen continued to put up from the mound told just a part of the story of his rollercoaster outing, but the ride was more than worth it to get his team back in the win column.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Lorenzen threw five scoreless innings while navigating through five walks, and four relievers completed the shutout as the Rangers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 3-0 to start a three-game weekend set inside Globe Life Field. All of Texas’ runs came in the third inning, with Corey Seager’s two-run double with two outs opening the scoring.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Texas threw its ninth shutout of the season, with Lorenzen starting three of those games. Despite allowing just one hit in his outing, Lorenzen allowed five walks, including loading the bases with a trio of free passes. On his 90th<\/sup> and final pitch, however, Lorenzen struck out Brandon Lowe to end the threat.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“I thought I made some good pitches. They just weren’t swinging,” Lorenzen said. “That was getting me behind in counts and I was kind of stubborn about making those pitches, and they just weren’t swinging. I’m glad we came out with a win. It wasn’t pretty on my end, but wins make everything better.”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Over his last 10 starts, Lorenzen, a 2023 All-Star with Detroit who signed with the Rangers on the last day of Spring Training, has an ERA of 2.48 as he’s allowed just 38 hits in 58 innings pitched with opponents batting .188.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“I feel like I’m improving, so when you have stuff to get better at and you know how to get better at those things, it makes it motivating to show up to the field each and every day to try and get better at those things,” Lorenzen said.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Seager extended his hitting streak to 10 games in the third inning after No. 9 hitter Jonathan Ornelas and leadoff hitter Marcus Semien had back-to-back singles with two outs. Seager then sent a double into left-centerfield to score two and give the Rangers a 2-0 lead. Nathaniel Lowe followed with a single to bring home Seager to cap off the three-run inning.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Rays pitcher Shane Baz made his first start since July 10, 2022 after undergoing Tommy John surgery in September of that year. He struck out six in six innings of work tonight, allowing seven hits and walking just one.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
