WASHINGTON \u2014 It must be nice having the luxury of turning to another bona fide superstar to come through in the clutch when another is in the midst of one of worst shooting nights as a professional, though a good number of NBA clearly don’t own aforementioned prosperity.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Tonight’s match-up clearly exemplified the separation between those that do have such personnel lavishness, as in the defending world champions, the Boston Celtics, and those who currently are still in wanting of it, like a young Washington Wizards team who did all that they good and then more for almost the entire game before succumbing to yet another defeat.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Jaylen Brown scored 31 points, including a crucial jumper with 46 seconds remaining, as the Celtics shook off an 0-for-10 performance from the three-point line by Jayson Tatum to shake off the pesky Washington Wizards 108-96 inside Capital One Arena in an Emirates NBA Cup Group C game. Boston, after losing its first game in group play at home against Atlanta this month, has won two straight in cup games and is tied with the Hawks at 2-1 with one group game left.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Not only did Washington’s loss drop them to 0-2 in group play, but the defeat was the Wizards’ 10th<\/sup> loss in a row overall.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Wizards, however, did start the fourth quarter only down three points, 75-72, and pulled within two on a couple of occasions in the frame but could not get over the hump. Tatum, who had missed 10 of his 13 shots leading up to the fourth, finally found his stroke in scoring eight of his 15 points in the game’s final 12 minutes. Brown scored seven in the quarter, making three of his four shots.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Jordan Poole scored 13 of his team-high 23 points in the fourth for the Wizards, while Kyle Kuzma had 21. Former Celtic Malcolm Brodgon, who won the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year after the 2023 season while with Boston, had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Washington.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
