NEW YORK — Some of the performances on the diamond from cornerstones of the New York Mets on Friday night vividly outlined what should be a bright future of baseball in Queens. However, that future officially will not include the 2019 postseason.

Pete Alonso clobbered his 51sthome run, one shy of a Major League record for rookies, while Jacob deGrom dominated on the mound with seven shutout innings during the Mets’ 10-3 victory over the Miami Marlins at Citi Field, a win that became moot in terms of the Wild Card chase when the Milwaukee Brewers clinched their ticket to the postseason – and eliminated the Mets from postseason contention in the process – with their win in Cincinnati that was completed just before the finish in Queens.
