DALLAS — No matter the professional sport, any athlete will tell you that wins are hard to come by no matter the opponent nor situation, which means the Dallas Mavericks earned a hard-fought victory on Tuesday evening. But by “hard,” one can also interpret that as the Mavericks made things much harder on themselves down the stretch after it looked as if they would ride easy street all the way to victory.

Luka Doncic made a game-sealing three-pointer with 28 seconds to go, enough to save the Mavericks the embarrassment of blowing a 25-point lead as they held on for a 103-101 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers at American Airlines Center. Dorian Finney-Smith scored a season-high 21 points, making seven of his 13 three-point attempts, and Reggie Bullock made four threes in the fourth quarter to help Dallas finally open up some breathing space after a see-saw fourth quarter.

“I thought the group handled the situation with grace in the sense of things weren’t going our way. But we didn’t self-destruct. We just stayed together and found a way,” Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd said. “Reggie [Bullock] made some big shots. There’s a lot of trust, especially with the way Reggie has been shooting the ball of late. And then [Dorian], seven 3s. I don’t know if that’s the most he’s ever shot, 13 [attempts], so we’ve got to get him more shots.”
