DALLAS — As of right now, the immediate future of the Chicago Bulls is crystal clear: getting ready for potentially two games to salvage a playoff position. After tonight’s defeat set its playoff fate in stone, the Dallas Mavericks’ future is much more uncertain.

In a must-win game for their playoff hopes, the Mavericks decided it was more of a must to secure a spot high in the draft, as the team rested many of their regulars and played Luka Doncic just 19 minutes — coming out of the game for good in the second quarter — before dropping a 115-112 decision to the Chicago Bulls on Friday night at American Airlines Arena, a result that officially eliminates the Mavericks from any shot at making the playoffs. Despite the lack of star power or chemistry amongst the players who did play, Dallas did find itself down just one in the final minute, and then missed three shots from behind the arc in the game’s final possession.
