The 2019 celebration of Mardi Gras may actually last long into the summer after the ping pong balls bounced the way of the New Orleans Pelicans this week, while a number of bounces of the puck have gone the way of the Carolina Hurricanes on their way to their longest foray into the Stanley Cup Playoffs in over a decade.

The eyes of the basketball world were set squarely set on the Windy City on Tuesday for the 2019 NBA Draft Lottery, a.k.a. the Zion Williamson sweepstakes, and the start of our latest edition of The A Lot of Sports Talk Podcast focuses on the atmosphere surrounding the extravaganza and the immediate aftermath by speaking with ESPN and Big Ten Network analyst Brooke Weisbrod, who had a front row seat alongside the top prospects going into the 2019 NBA Draft at the Hilton Chicago. In our conversation, Brooke discusses the immediate fallout and reaction at the hotel when the Pelicans saw their logo last to be unveiled during the lottery, along with her opinion on the impact that Williamson will have when he officially puts on an NBA uniform. After the presumptive No. 1 pick is indeed chosen, the Memphis Grizzlies, who own the No. 2 selection, will have a decision to make between Murray State Ja Morant and Duke forward RJ Barrett, and we pose the question to Brooke whom she would take between the two to build her team. From future pros to the present, Brooke also weighs in on this year’s NBA Playoffs and, among other topics, discusses which team remaining could stop a Warriors three-peat and some of the moments that have stood out to her during the 2019 postseason.

Never taking a backseat to the NBA Playoffs, the Stanley Cup Playoffs have provided a number of surprises, with the Carolina Hurricanes’ run to the Eastern Conference Final possibly the most surprising development — outside of the Tampa Bay Lightning’s shocking four-game capitulation at the hands of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Speaking of surprises, we have a conversation with Lyndsay Rowley, normally the studio host and reporter for Nashville Predators games on Fox Sports Tennessee, about all things involving the Carolina Hurricanes’ playoff run as she has had a front-row seat since the second round after tagging along with Fox Sports Carolinas as studio host for the Hurricanes for the rest of this postseason. Rowley breaks down what the atmosphere is like at PNC Arena, where Carolina won all of its five home games in the first two rounds of the playoffs, as well as how the Hurricanes have dealt with a rash of injuries during the playoffs to perform at their best. Also, there’s a conversation about a pot-bellied pig, Hamilton, who has become the unofficial mascot for Carolina during this run. You can’t miss out on that!
