COLLEGE PARK, MARYLAND — The Maryland women’s basketball team stewed on its loss on Thursday for a couple of days, and it was evident in the first 10 minutes of their game on Sunday that, no matter the opponent, the Terrapins were going to make whoever was across from them pay in atoning for that loss in Iowa City.

That the game so happened to be against another Top-10 team made the Terrapins’ demolition all the more impressive.

Diamond Miller had 29 points and 10 rebounds while Abby Meyers added 22 points as No. 8 Maryland steamrolled No. 10 Ohio State 90-54 at the XFINITY Center on Sunday afternoon. The Terrapins’ 36-point margin of victory marked the biggest win against the Top-10 opponent in program history, and also gave Maryland its third win against a Top-10 opponent of the season after earlier victories against Connecticut and Notre Dame.

Maryland scored just four fewer points today than in their game against Iowa on Thursday, but Maryland allowed 38 more points compared to today in a 92-86 loss to Caitlin Clark and the sixth-ranked Hawkeyes. That defeat ended a five-game winning streak for the Terps who were chomping at the bit to atone for the defeat against another of the Big Ten’s elite.

And atone Maryland did, as the Terrapins never trailed in the contest while holding the Buckeyes to their lowest scoring total of the season.

“I could really tell that the loss the other night left a bad taste in our mouth and I was really impressed with the response,” Maryland head coach Brenda Frese said. “A lot of them walked through the door at 4 am and re-watched the game. That tells you all you need to know about our team. Loved our start, loved our intensity, we knew both teams were going to come out strong. I thought we were the better team when we held them scoreless for about three minutes. It was their lowest point total in a quarter this season. Held them to a season-low with 54 points. I thought we were able to make a statement win, our largest win over a top-ten team in program history.

“We just had a 40 minute game as a team, we’ve been waiting for that, and just to see it on display was awesome to watch.”

Meyers scored 11 of Maryland’s 19 first-quarter points as the Terrapins held Ohio State to just seven points in the opening frame. Miller than chipped in with nine second-quarter points to help the Terrapins maintain their 12-point bulge that the entered the second quarter with. Up 43-30 at the half, Maryland shot 53 percent from the field (17-for-32) in the game’s first 20 minutes.

Miller raised her game to All-America mode in the third quarter as the Terrapins outscored Ohio State 27-14 to end the competitive nature to the contest, as she put up 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the quarter alone.

“With our All-American Diamond, I’m so glad that so many people were able to witness how special of a player she is,” Frese said.
