NEW YORK — For Columbia to continue its season, and turn it into a statistically historic one, it had to make sure to stop continuing its opponent free lanes and looks at the basket. Once the Lions clamped down on defense, their efficient offense was more than enough to keep their season alive — as well as an unexpected shot at revenge in a couple of days.

Abbey Hsu led the Lions with 21 points while their defense stepped up time and again with the game on the line as Columbia defeated Syracuse 88-82 inside Levien Gymnasium in Manhattan to advance into the Great 8 (final eight teams) of the 2023 WNIT.
