WASHINGTON — The Washington Mystics quickly put distance between themselves and their opponent on Tuesday due to their prowess from long distance.

Natasha Cloud scored 18 points in leading the Mystics to a 92-74 victory over the Atlanta Dream at the Entertainment and Sports Arena on Tuesday, Washington’s third consecutive victory at home. Ariel Atkins had 15 points for the Mystics, and she and Cloud combined to hit eight of Washington’s 15 three-pointers on the evening.

Atlanta scored the first two points of the game before the Mystics went on a 13-0 run to take a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the evening. Elena Delle Donne, who scored 11 points, hit a pair of free throws to open Washington’s scoring account before Shakira Austin scored off an offensive rebound. Cloud and Atkins followed with back-to-back three-pointers before the Dream called a time out, and Cloud hit a second three to cap off the decisive run.

Cloud was 4-for-5 from three-point range while Atkins was 4-of-6 from long range, while guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough made three of her five three-point attempts off the bench in scoring nine points. On the evening, the Mystics shot 60 percent from three (15-of-25) on their way to shooting 55.2 percent from the field overall.

By contrast, the Dream made just five of their 20 three-point attempts, with rookie phenom Rhyne Howard missing all seven of her shots from ling range. Washington held Howard, who had scored in double figures in eight consecutive games before this evening, to just five points on 2-of-14 shooting. No Atlanta starter scored in double figures, as the Dream were paced by Asia Durr’s 13 points off the bench. Another rookie, Naz Hillmon, scored 11 points for the Dream, who have now lost three straight.
