BALTIMORE — Kyle Bradish was so good and so locked in during his latest start that he didn’t know the fans were taking the time to acknowledge his dominance.
Bradish carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Kansas City Royals 6-1 inside Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Saturday night. Five of the six Orioles runs were scored via the home run, including a two-run shot by Pete Alonso in the fourth inning, his 21st of the season.
Once the Orioles took the lead, Bradish took over. He only allowed two base runners in the first six innings — Isaac Collins reached on a two-out error by Jackson Holliday in the third inning and Carter Jensen drew a walk immediately after the error — while retiring the other 18 Royals hitters going into the seventh.
The fans inside Camden Yards came to their feet as Bradish began the seventh, and did so again soon after he allowed his first hit, a soft liner to center by Jac Caglianone to lead-off the inning. There has yet to be a no-hitter thrown by an Oriole since Camden Yards opened in 1993, and though the fans knew history was in the making as Bradish was nine outs away from pulling off the accomplishment, the 29-year-old righty was oblivious.
“I didn’t really even notice until we went out for the seventh,” Bradish said. “When I ran out there, it was kind of a loud cheer, and I was like, ‘What’s going on?’ But then, it crept in my mind.”
