ARLINGTON, TEXAS — There have been very few bright spots for the San Francisco Giants in the 2026 season, a lost campaign helmed by a neophyte team president — who does happen to be a franchise legend — and a first-year manager whose disappointing results was embodied this past week when it sold off a couple of its most-coveted assets.

Tonight was the first day of the calm after the deadline storm, and two of the team’s few standouts shined once more as the Giants start their quest of ending the season on a high note with a winning start.

Jung Hoo Lee homered twice in leading the Giants to a 5-1 victory over the Texas Rangers inside Globe Life Field on Monday night to start a three-game series. Ace Logan Webb tossed six scoreless innings while allowing just five hits and striking out eight.

Not only did the Giants come into today 18 games under .500 and losers of three straight over the weekend in San Diego, they arrived in Texas a shell of the team that started the season after president of baseball operations Buster Posey traded the likes of starting pitcher Robbie Ray, infielder Luis Arraez, reliever Tyler Mahle and outfielder Heliot Ramos, among others, in a fire sale that has been on the horizon since early May.

Webb was a candidate to be moved as well, but stuck around in the orange and black, and he was most effective tonight pitching out of jams. In both the second and third innings, the Rangers put runners in first and second before Webb bore down and retured the side without any damage. Webb finished the game retiring the last eight hitters he faced.

Lee has been the most consistent hitter for San Francisco this season as his batting average has hovered around and just over the .300 mark for most of the season, and he cracked his first homer of the game in the third inning, a solo shot. He added another homer with the bases empty in the eighth inning for insurance.
