BALTIMORE — The bright, sunny forecast projected for Baltimore Orioles’ top prospect Jordan Westburg was in stark contrast to the weather that greeted him when he stepped into the batter’s box for the first time as a Major League Baseball player on Monday night. The pouring rain provided more cinematic effect than first-impression drear, and Westburg did a little bit of everything to help the Orioles’ heretofore magical season collect a little more pixie dust.

Westburg got his first big league hit and scored his first run, all part of a 1-for-4 day as the Orioles defeated the Cincinnati Reds 10-3 inside a waterlogged Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Five different players had two hits for the Orioles, who had to wait out a two-hour rain delay in the third inning before they poured on the offense afterward and moved their record to 48-29, a season-high 19 games over the .500 mark.
