BALTIMORE — Nothing was going to put a damper into what turned into the latest landmark day in the revival of the Baltimore Orioles, even a typically damp day during a typically sweltering summer day along the Inner Harbor. The hour-long rain delay occurring before the start of tonight’s game resulted in a breathtaking rainbow in view when looking out to the Baltimore skyline beyond the outfield…and eventually led to a couple of rainbow-arcing shots soaring over the outfield wall that led to another victory in Birdland.
Adam Frazier smacked two home runs, including a two-run shot in the eighth inning to provide the Orioles some insurance in a 5-2 victory over the Miami Marlins inside Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Friday night. Cedric Mullins, like Frazier, also hit a solo for the Orioles in the fourth inning as they broke a 1-1 tie, while starting pitcher Dean Kremer made the lead hold up by working six strong innings by allowing just a run on two hits while striking out eight batters.
The win improved the Orioles’ record to 55-35, the first time Baltimore is 20 games over .500 since the 2014 season. It took until August 5 for the Orioles to record their 55th win last season, and the Orioles did not reach the 55-win mark at all in each season from 2018 to 2021.
“We know we’re good. We have a really dangerous lineup, from one through nine to even every guy on the bench is dangerous. The guys pitching, they’ve shown up all year long,” said Frazier, whose 11 homers this season is now a career high. “We know we’re a complete team, but we’re going to take it one day at a time and see where we’re at at the end of this thing.”
