WASHINGTON — Despite the Dallas Mavericks being one of the hottest teams in the league and their opponent, the Washington Wizards, stuck at the foot of the table and mired in another historic losing streak, we definitely have to expect the unexpected given that anything can happen on any given day.

Luka Doncic had 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists while Kyrie Irving led his team with 25 points as the Mavericks eased their way past the Washington Wizards 137-101 on Thursday night inside Capital One Arena. The Mavericks made 20 of their 38 three-point attempts on their way to their sixth straight win, while the Wizards, who haven’t won since Halloween eve tied a franchise record with their 16th consective defeat.
Washington was up 6-3 before the Mavericks scored the next 15 points to take control of the game. Dallas hit seven of 12 from three in the first quarter and made 11 of its first 16 shots from beyond the arc.
It was the 78th triple-double for Doncic, moving him into a tie for seventh on the career list with Wilt Chamberlain and James Harden. Next on the list is his head coach, Mavericks boss Jason Kidd at 107.
Malcolm Brogdon scored 16 for the Wizards, who were without Kyle Kuzma (left rib sprain) and Corey Kispert (left ankle sprain). Washington fell to 2-18, and it’s the second straight season the Wizards have had a 16-game skid.
