BOSTON — If it looked like the Miami Heat were getting off many more shots than the Boston Celtics in their game on Friday night, your eyes weren’t deceiving you. If you also thought that, despite the discrepancy, the Celtics were exceptionally hot from beyond the three-point line, you’d also be correct.
Derrick White scored a career-high 33 points while tying a personal best with nine three-pointers as the Celtics defeated the Miami Heat 129-116 inside TD Garden. Jaylen Brown chipped in with 30 points, nine rebounds and seven assists while the Celtics bench poured in 41 points to help Boston snap a two-game losing streak.
Boston’s early-season troubles on the glass came to the fore again even though, overall, they were only outrebounded by one (47-46) as the Heat grabbed 17 offensive rebounds while led Miami to attempt 20 more field goal attempts. The Celtics actually made four more shots from the field than Miami (44-40), and Boston particularly was cooking in the second half, a time when Boston went on a 20-7 run early in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Boston made 59 percent of its shots from the field (23-for-39) in the game’s final 24 minutes, including nailing 14 threes out of 23 attempts beyond the arc. Sam Hauser, Anfernee Simons and Hugo Gonzalez all made at least four three-pointers off the bench, with Hauser making five.
Kel’el Ware had 24 points and 14 rebounds for Miami, which has lost six of its last seven. Norman Powell added 18 points. Bam Adebayo finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
