Stars of both the sports world and of Hollywood have been coming out to the Big Apple in time for the NBA All-Star Game at Madison Square Garden, and, fortunately for us, we got a chance to catch up with one of the great shining stars in NBA history.

In our latest episode of The A Lot of Sports Talk Podcast, our focus is on one of the coolest sports in North America, as well as one of the coolest competitors to ever grace a sports arena. One of our guests on the podcast is NBA Hall-of-Famer George Gervin, a nine-time NBA All-Star and four-time NBA scoring champion. The Iceman was in New York City as part of the festivities of NBA All-Star Weekend, and he talked with us about his memories of playing in NBA All-Star Games past, including breaking down the big difference between the All-Star Games he played in and the current editions and tenor of the All-Star Game. Also, Gervin lets us in on how he came up with the shot that he is most famous for, the finger roll, with a few Hall-of-Fame players being influences in his patented shot. We also asked Gervin which players today he enjoys seeing on television or in person, and if there’s a player today who has a playing style similar to his.

Our attention then focuses on the ice, and one of the surprise teams in the National Hockey League this season, the Calgary Flames. Defenseman TJ Brodie, the NHL leader in plus/minus amongst blue liners, joins the programs and explains to us why Calgary, who hasn’t made the playoffs in each of the past five seasons, is exceeding expectations so far in this campaign. Brodie, who plays alongside leading Norris Trophy candidate Mark Giordano, also talks about how playing alongside Giordano makes the game easier for himself.
