CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA — Cooper Flagg, the ACC Player of the year and projected No. 1 overall pick of the upcoming NBA Draft, is injured.
The biggest news out of conference tournament season has occurred in the Queen City early this afternoon in the first game of the ACC Tournament quarterfinals, as the freshman sensation rolled his ankle after coming down for a rebound. Flagg rolled onto his belly grimacing in pain and, after being helped up by teammates onto his feet, was still in visible pain as he walked to the bench, barely putting any weight on his left ankle.
Flagg was eventually escorted off the court with the help of a couple of teammates on each shoulder. We will update you on this page about the extent of his injury when we get more information.
At the time of Flagg’s injury, the top-seeded Blue Devils were down 26-17 to No. 8 Georgia Tech, but they rallied for a 78-70 victory after scoring the first 12 points of the second half to overtake the Yellow Jackets. Another standout Duke freshman, Kon Knueppel, led all scorers with 28 points.
Duke moves on to Friday’s semifinal, where it will take on a Tobacco Road rival: either No. 4 Wake Forest of fifth-seeded North Carolina.
To start the evening session, third-seeded Louisville takes on ACC newcomer Stanford, who defeated eternal rival California in the second round last night. In the nightcap, No. 2 Clemson, the only team to defeat the Blue Devils in conference play, takes on the SMU Mustangs.
