The weather is getting better across the country, and that means talk about the national pastime is only going to heat up even more.
Our newest episode of The A Lot of Sports Talk Podcast almost solely concentrates on some of the best players going right now who make their home away from home on the diamond. We start by focusing on the hottest team in the Majors, the Toronto Blue Jays, winners of nine straight games and currently on top of the American League East (32-22). Buck Martinez, former major leaguer and current play-by-play voice of the Toronto Blue Jays on Rogers Sportsnet, calls in and breaks down in detail why Toronto is as hot as it is right now. The Blue Jays’ offense leads the league in home runs (76), but Martinez elaborates on the improvements in the starting pitching and defense, as well as discussing whether this is a team that has pressure to perform now to bring back a once-raucous fan base in the Great White North.
From North of the Border to near America’s Heartland, the Women’s College World Series, college softball’s grandest event, begins on Thursday in Oklahoma City, and it might be the most-balanced eight-team field in the championship’s history. With that, we bring in public relations professional and softball expert/enthusiast Jen Voss to provide insight on the players to watch, what makes each of these teams so good and her prediction as to which school will leave the Sooner State with a national championship. In addition, Voss discusses why the game of softball has experienced the growth nationally that it has gone through.
Finally, our podcast ends a conversation with University of Wisconsin-Whitewater athletic director Amy Edmonds, and what it’s like being the AD at the school that just became the first in NCAA history to win the men’s football, basketball and baseball national championships in the same calendar year.
