PHILADELPHIA — It took longer to sing second for the 2022 edition of the Army football team than all of the other teams and victories their squads have amassed in past Army-Navy games, but rest assured that, given the frantic finish that saw them one yard away from being on the brink of defeat, the notes sounded just as sweet, if not sweeter, after one of the most memorable endings in the legendary rivalry.

Quinn Maretzki kicked a 39-yard field goal in double overtime to lift the Black Knights to a 20-17 victory over the Navy Midshipmen, in what turned out to be the first overtime game in the history of the 123-game rivalry. Both teams scored touchdowns on the first play from scrimmage in the first overtime before Army forced a fumble at the one-yard line in the second overtime.
