DALLAS — As things started to unfold, everything about Friday night’s game for the Minnesota Wild foretold defeat, from their talisman sitting the game out to the team falling behind on the road against one of the top home teams in the National Hockey League.
Yet the day turned into Freaky Friday for the Wild … and also turned into two points won.
Defenseman Brock Faber scored 35 seconds into overtime on a wraparound as the Minnesota Wild came from behind to defeat the Dallas Stars 3-2 inside American Airlines Center. After falling behind 2-0, Jonas Brodin and Marcus Foligno scored just 57 seconds apart midway through the third period to tie the game.
Filip Gustavsson made 27 saves for the Wild, who were outshot 29-18, but still were able to improve to 13-3-3 on the road, with their 29 points away from St. Paul being the most away points earned by any team in the National Hockey League.
Minnesota played without star forward Kirill Kaprizov, among the league leaders with 23 goals and 50 points, who sat out with a lower body injury.
Evgenii Dadonov scored in the first period for the Stars off a feed from Wyatt Johnson, who then scored late in the second period off a pass from Dadonov to double the Stars’ advantage. However, Dallas was once again shut out on the power play in three extra-man opportunities, which now drops them to a league-worst 9.8 percent (6-for-61) at home with the man advantage.
The Stars played down a man after forward Mason Marchment left late in the first period after being struck in the face by a puck. Soon after a pool of blood dripped onto the ice, Marchment was helped off the ice and did not return for the rest of the game.
