DALLAS — Coming into Saturday on a rare extended losing streak, the Dallas Stars were staggered once more with a one-two punch that knocked them back from whence it came, the canvas. But tapping into the reserves that have seen the core of this team lead them to the precipice of Stanley Cup glory over the past few years, the Stars bounced back and came through with one of their most resilient performances of the young season.
Defenseman Miro Heiskanen scored twice, including the game-winnng tally with 8:42 remaining as the Dallas Stars came back from an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 inside American Airlines Center on Saturday night. Heiskanen and Sam Steel scored second-period goals to tie the score as the former recorded his sixth career multi-goal game in the regular season.
The win snapped the Stars’ four-game losing streak.
“It’s a really good team and [we] played a really good game against them,” Heiskanen said. “We know that we can beat anyone in this league if we play at our best, and I think the last 40 minutes were really good. We have to keep doing that.”
The first 20 minutes were all Carolina, and it took five minutes for the Hurricanes to get on the board first by virtue of Jackson Blake’s unassisted goal off a face-off in front of the Stars net. The Hurricanes increased their lead with 10.3 seconds remaining in the first period when Sebastian Aho scored on a slap shot soon after an errant pass from Heiskanen near mid-ice.
Heiskanen started Dallas’ rally just 1:04 into the second period when his shot from below the left face-off circle ricocheted in off the skate of Hurricanes forward Nikolaj Ehlers. Dallas tied it at two apiece on Sam Steel’s power-play goal at the 5:41 mark when he redirected Thomas Harley’s shot from the blue line.
