DALLAS — The best in the East — and the best in the entire National Hockey League — squared off against the best in the West on Tuesday night, creating a Stanley Cup-like atmosphere from puck drop in Big D, and, at the end, one of the best goal-scorers in the world put an end to the wild and woolly proceedings. If anything, the game left every fan in the stands and many other spectators imagining what a rematch in three months’ time may look like.

David Pastrnak scored with 1:16 remaining in overtime to lift the Boston Bruins to a 3-2 overtime victory over the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center on Tuesday. Taylor Hall and Pavel Zacha also scored for Boston, who won their 40th game of the season in team game number 53, tied for the fastest to reach 40 wins in a season in National Hockey League history.

“It’s always going to be a little awkward coming in after [the All-Star break], but we played a good hockey game. It felt like the playoff hockey we all love to play,” said Bruins goalkeeper Linus Ullmark, who made 29 saves in the win. “They’re a good team, and there’s a reason they are first in the west. We knew that and really had to play a 60-plus game today and get the two points.”
