DALLAS — The Dallas Stars could not wait a few hours to set off fireworks in ringing in the New Year. Their hockey sticks turned into sparklers that lit up the American Airlines Center — and the Chicago Blackhawks net.

Mason Marchment completed his second career hat trick as led the Stars’ scoring barrage in an 8-1 victory over the Blackhawks on New YEar’s Eve, the second win in a three-day span against Chicago. Seven different players had multi-point games for Dallas, who extended their home winning streak to six games.

Marchment scored his second career hat trick, to go along with the one he got on February 18, 2022. His third goal, coming with just 1:02 remaining to round out the scoring, was his 13th goal of the campaign, one more than he scored all of last season in his first as a Dallas Star after coming over from Florida.

“The whole group is really happy for him. He’s a really popular guy in the dressing room,” Stars head coach Pete DeBoer said about Marchment. “Everybody feels for what he went through last year personally. We always had faith in him. I really felt that he was in a much better place this year coming into camp than he was a year ago with his life. He was settled and he had a year to grieve and get through that process. Everyone’s really excited for him. When he’s playing like he is now, he’s a really effective guy for us.”
