DALLAS — It was unrealistic to think the Dallas Stars would go the entire season without allowing a goal at home, something they finally did during their third game inside their friendly confines this season. Just as unrealistic of a thought is the Stars finishing the entire season undefeated at home, which is still possible — albeit highly unlikely, of course — after their first comeback win of the season.
Jason Robertson, Matt Duchene and Wyatt Johnston all scored on their shootout attempts, with the latter’s goal securing the Stars’ 3-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks inside American Airlines Center on Tuesday evening. Duchene and Hintz scored in regulation for the Stars while Jake Oettinger made 25 saves as the Stars improve to 4-0 on the season.
The four wins include three straight at home, though tonight was the first of those three games in which Dallas did not record a shutout. Tyler Toffoli scored at the 6:24 mark of the second period for San Jose, marking the first deficit for Dallas this season. Duchene answered for Dallas at 12:03 to tie the contest.
Ty Dellandrea, the former Stars player who was traded last June, scored against his former club at 15:12 to give the Sharks the lead again. That advantage lasted for two minutes, with Hintz’s second goal of the season — assisted by Robertson and Johnston — tying the score.
Dallas successfully killed three penalties in the third period, including a 96-second stretch in which San Jose had a two-man advantage, to keep the game tied and force the extra session.
