DALLAS — Two continents, one month, and zero goals. For as much as the Dallas Stars’ season has been relatively going to play, their most lethal goalscorer in the past couple of seasons hit one of the biggest ruts in his young career. The fact that he snapped that jinx tonight might be just a further good sign for him and the Stars as they continue to be nigh untouchable in the Lone Star State.
Robertson opened the scoring in the first period with his first goal in 10 games while adding two assists as the Stars defeated the San Jose Sharks 5-2 inside American Airlines Center on Wednesday evening. Roope Hintz, who scored on an empty-netter, and Wyatt Johnson each had a goal and an assists while Jake Oettinger made 20 saves to remain undefeated at home in seven starts this season.
The Stars are 8-2 at home this season, though one of the losses was when they were the designated home team during one of the two games in Finland earlier this month for the Global Series against the Florida Panthers.
Robertson’s three-point night was his first game with multiple points since October 19, and the goal was his first since an October 24 game in Boston. He received a shot-pass from defenseman Matt Dumba before wheeling around and firing a wrist shot past Sharks goalkeeper Mackenzie Blackwood at the 15:33 mark of the first period to give the Stars the lead.
“I think whenever you’re really fighting it, it’s good to see it go in, especially when you’re a goal-scorer,” Robertson said. “I think it’s great. Our line — Roope, Johnston and I — this past month we’ve relied heavily on [Matt] Duchene’s line to do it. It’s a tough league and we needed another line to step up and be able to do that. I thought their line played great, but it’s nice to see our line win us a game and contribute.”
