Two of the biggest events on the sports calendar are taking place this weekend across the Atlantic.

The latest episode of The A Lot of Sports Talk Podcast starts by focusing on the second tennis Grand Slam of the year, the 2014 French Open. Lindsay Gibbs, tennis writer at The Changeover and author of the 2012 book Titanic: A Tennis Story, hops on the mic with us to talk about the hot topics leading up to, arguably, the most grueling of the four Grand Slam events. We ask Lindsay whether whether Rafael Nadal, winner of eight of the last nine French Open titles, or Novak Djokovic, looking to complete the career Grand Slam, should be the favorite going into the event that starts on Sunday. The conversation also focuses on the ladies, and we discuss how long the top two tennis players in the world, Serena Williams and Li Na, can continue their stellar play even with being in their 30s. Finally, we talk to Lindsay about her 2012 book, which chronicles two tennis players, Richard N. Williams and Karl Behr, who survived the sinking of the Titanic and went on to have Hall-of-Fame tennis careers.

Also in this podcast, Jorge de Castro, President of the Atlético de Madrid New York Supporters Club, talks to us about his favorite soccer team as Atléti takes on La Liga and city rival Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League Final on Saturday in Lisbon. de Castro discusses how intense the rivalry with Real is back in Spain, how manager and former longtime Atlético player Diego Simeone has managed to take this team to the top of the European food chain in 2013-14 and serenades us with a couple of cheers and chants that he and his fellow Atlético de Madrid supporters will sing while taking in tomorrow’s game to crown the best club team in Europe (and the world).
